Regarding a certain Oxford quintet, does anybody remember back in 2002 when Richard D. James, aka Aphex Twin, declared so adamantly:

“I wouldn’t play with them, since I don’t like them.”

Well it seems AFX has since updated his iPod to include Radiohead’s music. Either that, or he’s found a mutual affiliation with Radiohead multi-instrumentalist Jonny Greenwood for Polish avante-garde composer Krzysztof Penderecki, as the electronic music legend put all his silly little differences aside to share the stage in Wroclaw, Poland, with both of them.

At 3am yesterday morning (don’t panic, the mix is usually pre-recorded in the studio at a decent hour) Jamie xx took to the Radio 1 Essential Mix decks for 2-hours of non-stop electronic music that let’s face it, Radio 1 wouldn’t normally choose to play.

There’s some great material here from James Blake, Aardvarck, Pangaea and of course Jamie’s own reworking of Radiohead’s ‘Bloom’ and Gil Scott Heron’s ‘I’ll Take Care of U’.

Succeeding the announcement of easily one of the most indigenous musical events to air on television this year, Glastonbury and Later…With Jools Holland aside, was the rather dib-dabby confusion of broadcast dates which left everyone feeling a bit lacklustre.

After distribution by BBC Worldwide, incidentally, the programme was first aired the evening of July 10th on Spanish television, with the entire 55-minute set appearing gratuitously on YouTube. The BBC then decided they weren’t going to air it after all.

On the 1st of July Radiohead will be performing The King of Limbs in its entirety during a 55-minute BBC special of Nigel Godrich’s flagship music series, ‘From The Basement‘.

In anticipation of the show, the band have released a sneaky new song called ‘Staircase‘. Watch above and listen to the mp3 below.

It’s interesting to hear the “unborn chicken voices” being sung by Rivers Cuomo, as I prepare to post this out into the chaotic pipeline of the internet. “The yuppies networking”? Well, yes. Of course I’m going to post it to Twitter and Facebook…
